Jay-Z has talked about retirement for much of his 10-year recording career. His 2003 release The Black Album was billed as his last, though since then he found time to tour, record albums with R. Kelly and Linkin Park and usher a feature film into theaters.

But now he has a desk job: The multiplatinum rapper has been named the president and CEO of Island/Def Jam records.

Jay-Z (aka Shawn Carter) will assume his post Jan. 3 and report to label chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid. He’ll also continue to work at Roc-a-Fella Records, the label he co-founded that is affiliated with Island.

As much a businessman as an artist ? he also runs a successful clothing line, a vodka company and is a partner in the business group that purchased the NBA’s New Jersey Nets ? Jay-Z had hinted at a desire to become an industry mover and shaker like Berry Gordy, the man who founded Motown Records and turned it into a hit-making institution.

“My next thing is to open up the door for black people to become record executives,” he told the Chronicle this fall. “The music business is stale to me. I want to push the envelope and open it up for future generations.”

Just before dawn on a crisp November morning, federal agents converged on a two-story home in suburban Maplewood, N.J., and woke up Cynthia Brent. They told her to get dressed for court.

Brent, a soft-spoken accountant for rap label The Inc., was facing charges of laundering more than $1 million in drug money.

Over the next eight days, federal and local agents swept from New Jersey to Manhattan and Queens, making arrests in a probe linking one of rap music’s hottest labels to one of New York’s most notorious gangsters.

After filing charges against seven suspects, including rap star Ja Rule’s manager, federal prosecutors appear to be closing in on their ultimate targets: The Inc. founder Irv “Gotti” Lorenzo and convicted crack kingpin Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff.

Convicted criminals and artists alike long have boasted about the links between the industry and the drug underworld, but no major charges have ever been filed against a label as successful as The Inc, which has sold about 20 million records behind flagship artists Ja Rule and Ashanti.

Prosecutors have declined to discuss the case. But defense attorneys and law enforcement officials said Brent, Ja Rule manager Ron “Gutta” Robinson and two alleged McGriff associates are under pressure by the government to provide information about the rap mogul and McGriff.

The arrests signal that the investigation, after a yearlong lull, is “gaining momentum,” said one of the law enforcement officials, all of whom spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Longtime friends, Gotti and McGriff are suspected of laundering money from McGriff’s cocaine and heroin operation through Gotti’s platinum-selling label, according to court documents filed in support of search and property seizure warrants.

McGriff, 44, founder of one of the city’s most violent drug crews, allegedly returned to his old ways when he was released from prison in 1997. He had served about nine years for drug conspiracy.

A police official said investigators believe that once free, McGriff set about reviving his drug-dealing operation. They also suspect he and his associates could be responsible for a dramatic rise in homicides there, the official said.

The number of killings in the Queens neighborhood in which he operated defied a citywide downward trend last year by rising to 29, compared to just 13 a year earlier. So far this year — with McGriff behind bars for a minor gun possession conviction — killings total 16.

Cooperating witnesses have told investigators that McGriff admitted to the 2001 revenge slaying of up-and-coming rapper E-Money Bags in New York and arranged the Baltimore killing one month later of an informant in his drug organization. A security camera captured a luxury sport utility vehicle registered to a McGriff associate dropping off another shooting victim’s body at a Queens hospital in 1999, court papers said.

McGriff hasn’t been charged in any of the killings, and he’s denied any wrongdoing. His attorney, Robert Simels, said his client has become a scapegoat for unsolved murders based solely on his criminal history as boss of a former gang known as the Supreme Team.

“I think he’s a convenient person to point to because of the lore of the street,” said Simels, referring to the gang’s reputation in rap circles.

“When you hear talk of the south side, you hear talk of the Team,” rapper 50 Cent says in one song. “See (people) … respected ‘Preme.”

As for Gotti and his associates, they say they’re proud of their friendship with McGriff.

“That’s like my brother, I love this boy,” Ja Rule said when asked about McGriff in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

The Inc. was founded as Murder Inc. in 1997. Gotti changed his label’s name earlier this year to deflect negative publicity from the investigation. Its new single, Wonderful, featuring Ja Rule and Ashanti, was No. 2 on Billboard’s list of hot rap tracks last week.

Gerald Lefcourt, Gotti’s lawyer, insists The Inc. is a legitimate business financed by part owner Island Def Jam, a Universal Music label.

“All we see is government pressure on all kinds of people to provide negative information with no justification,” Lefcourt said.

When I talk to these females on the phone to set up shoots I try my BEST to give them the benefit of the doubt as far as them keeping their appointments and being on time. This past week I had some crazy ass hoe that took the cake. When she called me the first time her voice sounded pretty rough and I said “Maybe she has lived a hard life and smokes or something.”

Anyways I set up the time to meet her at Aventura Mall since she was catching the bus to my hotel. She was an hour late – STRIKE ONE. Im driving around the food court area looking for this trick and I dont see NOBODY that could possibly be there for a shoot with ME!

So I call her cell and ask her what she’s wearing. She says “White shirt,Black pants & sunglasses.”

Damn it!!! I’m looking at this ho wondering what the fuck?!?! I mean she has to be somebody’s grandma. STRIKE TWO

I thought about hauling ass, but naw I wanted to see what the hell was going on in her head. So she spots my truck, walks over and gets in. So I asked “How old are you?” She says “30”. Im like 30? YOU ARE 30?! She says “Yea. why I dont look 30?” I said let me see your ID. She breaks out her license and it says 1963. Then she goes into this song and dance on how they messed up her ID and its supposed to say 1972. I said “1972? That still doesnt make you 30!”

Bitch was looking me dead in the eyes and lying to me. So I told her whatever her age really is I cant use her.

You know the hoe didnt want to get out the truck. She was like “I came here to get paid and I aint leaving til I get something.” STRIKE THREE

I said “Oh ok” Turned the truck off, got out, walked around to her side and then she saw I wasnt playing and hopped her lying ass out.

What the hell was she thinking? Didnt she know I was going to have to see her eventually?

I had one other hoe flake out on me too – but the 4 that I did shoot this week more than made up for those two fools.

Im not debuting any of them just yet. I am working on a new site and thats where they will be featured.

Im headed to Miami for the next few days. Going to shoot that female I told you about last week along with a few others. I will be hitting some of the strip clubs down there like The Mint & the one by the railroad tracks on 79th, hopefully I can find some new talent in there. Last few times I passed through all the vets were looking pretty tired. You females in Miami that are looking to make some X-mas cash, call me and get hooked up this week.

Peace.

So Im in the mall in Orlando last night looking for some deals that these people on the news said were going to be available after Thanksgiving and I see this female walking into Victoria’s Secret. She was wearing some kind of loud blue ski pants. They looked like long track biker shorts. She had a ridiculously phat ass and it was jiggling in those tight ass shorts so I just HAD TO follow her in to see whats up. I wasnt walking with my camera (Sorry bout that.)

I made my approach and struck up a bullshit convo asking her about shit I cared nothing about. Anyways after she spit out her brief history I asked her what she does in her free time, she tells me she is a yoga instructor and wants to be a dancer in videos. (DING DING DING) I was like, “Ya know I can make that happen baby girl – Why dont you give me your number and I will see what I can do.” She gave me her number (305)625-xxxx. Im like “Oh shit, you live in Carol City?” She said yeah and she graduated from American Senior High 2 years ago. 19 years old and built like a stallion. DAYUM! You ever seen those yoga chicks do all that bending and shit? Its gonna be a lovely day when I see that ass out of those clothes bending over and stretching…

I got her name and number and I will be stopping by her house next Monday to see if I can get her naked. I will keep ya posted.

Lil John Got Married

The King of Crunk married his queen this weekend at a resort in Puerto Rico. Lil Jon walked down the aisle at the Wyndham El Conquistador Resort and Golden Door Spa in Fajardo, near San Juan, at a small Saturday afternoon ceremony.

The couple married under a white columned canopy, in front of around 80 guests on a field overlooking the ocean. The bride — whose name is being withheld to respect her privacy — wore a dress by Monique Lhuillier; the rapper donned a white tuxedo. The three bridesmaids were dressed in mauve gowns, while the groomsmen wore white tuxedos.

An early-evening reception was held poolside, and a party later took place in the upper-level ballrooms of the resort’s Grand Hotel. Resort patrons, meanwhile, partied at the hotel’s casino, bar and club, hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple and rumored attendees such as Usher and Snoop Dogg.

Lil Jon’s publicist and label representative declined to comment on his wedding.

Happy Thanksgiving. The way I live I make sure I focus on the positive things that happen in life and roll with the punches with when something bad happens. Make sure you tell your family and friends how much you appreciate them.

Dont eat too much, whether it be this kind of turkey:

Or this kind:

Peace.

Indiana’s Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson charged into the stands and fought with fans in the final minute of their game against the Detroit Pistons on Friday night, forcing an early and ugly end to the Pacers’ 97-82 win.

The game was stopped with 45.9 seconds remaining when a pushing and shoving between the teams spilled into the stands after fans began throwing things at the players near the scorer’s table.

“It’s the ugliest thing I’ve seen as a coach or player,” Pistons coach Larry Brown said.

After several minutes of players fighting with fans in the stands, the Pacers were pelted with beer, ice, and popcorn as they made their way to the locker room in one of the scariest brawls in an NBA game.

The Palace announcer said the game was being stopped and pleaded with fans not to throw things.

It all started when Detroit’s Ben Wallace went in for a layup and was fouled hard by Artest.

Wallace wheeled around and pushed Artest in the face. The benches emptied and punches were thrown.

As the players continued shoving each other near center court and coaches tried to restore order, Artest lay on his back on the scorer’s table.

Just when it appeared tempers had died down, Artest was struck by a cup thrown from the stands. He jumped up, and charged into the stands, throwing punches as he climbed over seats.

Fans were punching back, and Jackson and another teammate joined Artest in the melee. A Pistons player came running into the crowd.

Detroit’s Rasheed Wallace and Indiana’s David Harrison were also in or near the stands.

As the crowd roared, drinks and debris showered the court and the Pacers players covered their heads as they hustled through the runway leading to the locker room.
